We pioneered the Australian horizontal directional drilling industry, jointly invented surface-to-inseam drilling (SIS) and are working on some exciting projects as in energy and infrastructure, particularly drilling and pipelines.

Our projects
We are engaged in the entire life cycle of most of our projects from feasibility studies, design and engineering, construction, operations, and decommissioning.
Our current project is the turnkey delivery of an exploration and production drilling and piloting program, including taking contract operatorship.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Drilling Engineer to join our team to take responsibility of the drilling campaign. The project involves four different well designs across exploration and production. Applying innovative drilling practices including underbalanced drilling, pressure coring and reservoir characterisation, you will work with the field superintendent and project manager to deliver the project on time and on budget.
Our headquarters are in Sydney but being Brisbane-based is welcome. You will be required to travel to field operations as required and you will be expected to know when you need to be there.
Beyond this project, you’ll have a broad range of oil and gas, pipeline, civil and resource projects located in Australia and overseas to progress.
Reporting to our Engineering Director and Project Managers, you will have broad responsibility and access to senior management on a day to day basis.
You will be responsible for:
• Working between our engineering and field teams to ensure projects are executed to scope, time and budget.
• Co-operating with our customer to ensure we are delivering excellence and are demonstrating that we are good to deal with.
• Leading well operations in the relevant sector by providing and setting a high standard of quality engineering documents, QA/QC reports, cost tracking and MOC.
• Demonstrate a personal commitment to consistently role model AJ Lucas' values, code of conduct, safety, and the environment.
About You
You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to contribute to a high performing-team with a second-to-none focus on safety and integrity.
To be considered for this role, you will ideally have:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (petroleum, civil, mechanical or other) or geology with proven experience in oil and gas.
• Eligibility to work in Australia.
• Proven record in the engineering and construction of drilling, workover and/or abandonment activities.
• Solid understanding of coal seam gas fundamentals including well design and production.
• Proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Project management skills.
• Experience in contract management desirable.
• Able to think strategically to assist with major contract, improvements and project strategy.
• RPEQ desirable.
